Cacaxtla

Under this super-massive roof, the excavations of the hilltop ruins Cacaxtla are undertaken. Cacaxtla is located only a couple of hours from Puebla (makes a nice day trip) and was discovered in 1975 when local men dug a tunnel and uncovered a mural. Cacaxtla is an important site as it contains many preserved examples of wall paintings and murals, which scientists are still working on identifying. It includes paintings of a full-size jaguar, soldiers and eagle warriors engaged in battle together with many other inunderstandable things.

The indigenous people decorated their temples with these kinds of murals
