Baños-Puyo on bike (61 km)

Puyo is a city located only 61 km from Baños and accessible by bus or even a rented bike. The trip to Puyos is well worth the effort, if not otherwise, only to experience the difference in terrain. Baños is located in the Andes but close to the end of the mountain range. Still, the mountainous terrain is dramatic and there is jaw-dropping scenery along the way. The road follows the river downhill for around 40 km, after which you reach the end of the mountains and the landscape turns almost immediately into a huge flat area, the Amazon basin; incredible. Further 20 km on you get to the Amazon gateway of Puyo, where one can catch a bus back to Baños with the bike on the roof (you would not like to do the uphill trip back, trust me).
