The equator

You can't visit Ecuador without making a daytrip out to the equator monument, just an hour outside Quito. It is touristic - yes - but the equator is much more than only the middle of the world. Without the equator, for example, there would be no myth of the flushing toilet.

    did you do the test with the water spining in one direction and in other depending on which side you are?

    Hello Philippe. No I didn't. There was something set up with toilets there but its a scam so I didn't try. There is no such force that have an effect on how water swirls down the toilet so it doesn't matter, its only due to the design of the toilet I'm afraid.

    There is a law, known as Coriolis Effect, which causes weather systems veer to the right in the northern hemisphere, and to the left in the southern but it has no effect on small bodies of water such as in the toilet. Hence just a myth.
