Colca Valley

A tour through the Colca Valley includes a visit to the Colca Canyon, the deepest Canyon in the world. Unfortunately, the rainy weather continued and low clouds made it difficult to fully appreciate the magic of the region around the canyon. This is a fairly isolated place, on old Inka-land, full of remains, graves, outlooks and terraces. The Inka culture was highly advanced when it came to agriculture and they had a special technique for constructing terraces on the mountain slopes, self-heated by the stones with the purpose of creating different micro-climates for growing different types of crops.

Apart from beautiful views over the valley, I managed to see a few animals (vicuñas among other things), catch a picture of a near-by flying condor, steam in a volcanic bath and experience some traditional villages along the way. The Colca Valley is well worth a visit if you pass by.
